Your family's privacy

ooli is a set of learning games for kids aged 4 to 7, in the ooli app for iPhone and iPad. ooli is operated by Green Labs LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. It covers the app, the Parent Hub (in the app and at playooli.com/parents) and this website.

1. The short version

• We never show ads, never sell or share your family's information, and use no analytics or tracking tools. The app sends no analytics at all.
• Kids never type, chat, or use a microphone or camera. They tap pictures.
• A parent signs in and gives consent before anything about a kid is saved to the family account. A kid's profile is a nickname and an age.
• The app doesn't use any AI service. Your kid's stories and learning data are never sent to an AI company.
• Nothing your kid does is used to train any AI, ours or anyone else's.
• You can see, download or delete your family's information at any time.

2. This website

This website tells families about ooli and is where the Parent Hub lives on the web. There are no games on the website, and kids don't have accounts here.

Like any website, our host keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the time of a visit) to run and secure the site. We use them only for that. The website uses no advertising or analytics cookies. The Parent Hub uses one cookie to keep you signed in.

3. Beta and launch sign-ups

If you join the beta or ask us to tell you when ooli launches, we collect your email address, which list you joined and, for the beta, which device your kid will use. This form is for parents and guardians over 18 only, and it asks nothing about your kid. We use your email to invite you to the beta or to tell you about the launch.

The form also has a box, ticked to start with, that says "Get updates about new learning games for your kids and ooli news". If you leave it ticked, we'll also email you about new games and ooli news; if you untick it, we won't. We keep your choice and when you made it. Every one of these emails has a link to stop them, you can turn them off any time on the Privacy page of the Parent Hub, and you can ask us to remove you from any list at any time.

4. Your family account

A grown-up signs in the first time the app opens, before any play. The same account works in the app on every device in your family and in the Parent Hub on the web. When you sign in and set up your family we collect:

• Your email address, to sign you in with a one-time code we email you, or with Sign in with Apple. There are no passwords. With Sign in with Apple we ask for your email only, and if you choose to hide it, we get a private relay address from Apple instead.
• Your consent: when you gave it, how, and which version of our notice you read.
• Your email choice: whether you want emails about new learning games and ooli news, and when you chose. It starts ticked when you set up your account; turn it off any time on the Parent Hub's Privacy page.
• Your kids' profiles: a nickname and an age for each kid (up to 6), how their ooli looks and its name and voice, and any daily limit and bedtime you set.
• Your kids' learning, synced from the app after you consent, so it's the same on every device:
  • their skill map: for each skill, whether it's new, being practised or got, and how sure ooli is;
  • learning milestones: short dated notes of what ooli changed for them, such as “got it: the sound of m” or “Feeding Time got a bit harder”;
  • weekly counts of the skills they got, by area;
  • weekly play: minutes and games played, words spelled, letters traced and stories made;
  • the stickers they earned.

What stays on the device. Some things never leave the iPhone or iPad they're made on: your grown-up passcode, “Say cheese” photos of your kid's ooli (these are drawn by the app, never taken with the camera), sound and music settings, and the picture cards your kid picks in Silly Story Builder. Your device's own backup may include them; Apple handles that backup, not us.

5. The ooli app

The app talks only to our own servers, and only for sign-in, consent, your email choice and syncing your family's profiles and learning. After the first sign-in, the games work offline and sync again when the device is back online.

Here is everything the app collects, as it appears on our App Store privacy label:

Not collected: location, contacts, photos or videos, audio (the app never asks for the microphone or camera), usage analytics, device identifiers, health, browsing or search history, financial information, sensitive information, and advertising data.

No tracking. We don't combine our data with other companies' data for ads or give it to data brokers, and the app never asks to track you. There are no ad, analytics, attribution or social tools in the app.

Purchases. The ooli subscription is sold and processed by Apple. We never see your card or payment details. Apple tells the app whether your family has an active plan, and we store only your parent account's plan (monthly or yearly), its status and your free-trial end date. We use these to unlock ooli on your family's devices and to email you before your free trial ends. Nothing about purchases is linked to your kids, and kids never see a price.

6. Stories and the learning engine

• Only one game, Silly Story Builder, makes new text. Your kid taps four picture cards and the story is written on the device, by a model built into the device's own software, inside a template we wrote. On devices that can't do that, the story comes from a pack of stories we wrote and checked, which ships inside the app. Either way, your kid's picks never leave the device.
• Every story is checked by our kid-safety rules before Rex reads it. If one fails, the game uses a story we wrote.
• The app makes no calls to any AI service, ours or anyone else's. Every other game runs on content we wrote, with recorded voices.
• The learning engine that picks what to practise next is our own software, and it runs on the device. It works out which skills your kid has learned from how they play. It isn't a chatbot, and your kid's learning data is never sent to an AI company.
• Nothing your kid does is used to train any AI model.

7. Children's privacy and parental consent

ooli is made for children under 13, and we follow the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We collect only what the games need, and we don't make a kid share more to play.

Before any information about a kid is saved to a family account, a parent must sign in, read our notice of what we collect, and agree. We then email the parent a confirmation, so a parent who didn't agree can tell us and we'll delete everything. We don't share kids' information with anyone except the service providers below, who run ooli for us.

A parent can at any time:

• review the information we hold about their kids, and download a copy;
• delete one kid's information;
• take back consent, which deletes every kid's synced information and stops syncing;
• delete their whole account.

You can delete a kid or your account in the app's Parent Hub (behind your passcode) or on the Privacy page of the Parent Hub on the web, where you can also download a copy and take back consent. Or contact us at support@playfulintelligence.co. If we learn we've collected a kid's personal information without consent, we delete it.

8. Who we share information with

We don't sell, rent or share your family's information for advertising. We use these service providers to run ooli, under contracts that let them use the information only to provide their service to us:

• Supabase hosts our database and parent sign-in.
• Vercel hosts this website and the Parent Hub on the web.
• Resend sends our emails: sign-in codes, consent confirmations and, if you leave the box ticked, ooli news.
• Apple provides Sign in with Apple and the App Store.
• Google may keep beta and launch sign-ups in a private spreadsheet, only as a backup if our database can't take them.

We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect the safety of a child or anyone else, or as part of a sale or merger of Green Labs LLC, in which case this policy would still apply to it.

9. How long we keep it

• Your account, your kids' profiles, skill maps, stickers and weekly play: while your account is open.
• Learning milestones: the last 60 days. Older ones are deleted automatically.
• Weekly counts of skills got: the last 13 weeks. Older ones are deleted automatically.
• When you delete a kid, take back consent or delete your account, that information is deleted within 30 days.
• Sign-ups: until launch, or until you ask us to remove you. Your news choice: until you change it.
• Server logs: kept by our host for a short time, to run and secure the site.
• Things that stay on the device are removed when you delete the app.

10. Security

Everything travels over encrypted connections. Our database lets each parent reach only their own family's information, and only a few people at Green Labs LLC can reach it, to run the service. No system is perfectly secure; if something ever goes wrong, we'll tell affected families as the law requires.

11. Your choices and rights

Wherever you live, you can ask to see, correct, download or delete the information we hold about you or your kids, and we won't treat you differently for asking. Most of this you can do yourself in the Parent Hub; for anything else, email support@playfulintelligence.co. Some US states give you these rights by law, and we offer them to everyone.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use kids' information, we'll email parents and ask for consent again before it applies.
