For parents

You know your kid. Now their games do too.

ooli is built for the grown-up as much as the kid: games that meet your kid where they are, a clear view of what they're learning, and limits that hold.

What they practise

The building blocks of reading and math.

ooli keeps track of small skills across eight areas. A letter learned in one game counts in every other, so your kid isn't stuck repeating what they already know.

Letters

Spotting each letter, knowing its sound, and writing it, capitals first.

Phonics and spelling

Rhymes and first sounds, then three-letter words and up, one sound at a time.

Numbers

Counting to 10, more and less, counting just the right things, and sharing.

Words and listening

Animal, food, thing and colour words, place words like on top and under, and remembering a story.

Shapes and patterns

Naming circles, squares, triangles and more, and finishing patterns like AB and AAB.

Feelings and kindness

Naming how someone feels and picking a kind thing to do.

Music

Copying a beat, guessing what comes next, and making up a song.

Space and science

The sun, the moon and the planets, and what makes each one special.

The Learning page

See exactly what they're learning.

Every kid has their own Learning page in the app, behind your grown-up passcode. It updates after every round, on every iPhone and iPad you sign in on. No grades, no scores, no comparing your kid with anyone else.

This week
A short note on what your kid practised and what's getting stronger, with something to try away from the screen.
Talk about it tonight
Questions to ask at dinner, from what they played today, and what to listen for.
Moving fast and needs more practice
Where your kid is right now. "Ahead" means ahead of where ooli started them, never ahead of other kids or a grade.
Everything they're learning
Every skill in every area, from every letter three ways to every shape.
What ooli changed, and why
Every change ooli makes for your kid, with the reason, so you can see the engine at work.

Screen time

Not more screen time. Better screen time.

A lot of kids' apps are built to keep them playing. ooli is built so play has a good ending.

  • Limits that hold. A daily limit for each kid (10, 20, 30, 45, 60 minutes, or off) and a bedtime.
  • A goodnight, not a fight. When time is up, Rex puts on his pyjamas and the island sleeps until tomorrow.
  • No hooks. No streaks, no daily rewards, no red dots, no countdown timers, and no notifications to your kid.
  • No autoplay. A game ends at the end. The next one waits until your kid picks it.

AI and your kid

Their first AI should be built for them.

Kids are going to grow up with AI. We think it should meet them on their level, with rules grown-ups can check. A few ways to talk about it:

  • Keep it simple. “ooli notices what you've got the hang of, and picks what to practise next.”
  • Make it about them. Ask what Rex asked them today, and what they picked. The Learning page has questions to start with.
  • Keep the real stuff real. Rex is a friend in a game. Feelings, worries and big questions go to the grown-ups who love them.

ooli is coming soon to iPhone and iPad. We're letting a small group of families try it first, a few at a time.
